Connection with our environment and our bodies is imperative to growth. A tree needs strong roots if it is to grow to touch the sky.
Some Grounding exercises to try:
5 senses eating: Use your five senses to mindfully eat your next snack. Pay close attention to how your body feels and if any emotions/memories come up.
Grow roots: Sitting in a chair or laying on the ground imagine yourself connecting with the earth by growing roots into the ground around you.
Squeeze hug: Fold your arms around yourself and give yourself a squeeze hug. Pay close attention to pressure points and take deep breaths.
Nature: Sit in nature and note details you notice. Pay close attention to what you see, hear, feel, and smell.
*look up grounding exercises online- youtube and meditation apps are good sources to mix up your grounding.
My insights: Nature seems to the easiest way for me to ground quickly. I feel the most disconnect when I am trying to get a lot of tasks done without a plan. This is very overwhelming for me and then I get significantly less efficient. I’m going to try to cue myself into grounding whenever I encounter nature (even if it is just a tree in a parking lot)- and check in with how present I feel during typical meal times. This way I can ground several times a day. I find that I’m happier and more purposeful when grounded.
In the world: While you are grounding I want you to notice if there is something that you see that needs improvement or assistance. Even clearing the old dead foliage away from new sprouts assist the world and put positive vibes out. Some other examples would be to take the extra time to put a special stuffed animal on your kids bed, write a quick kind note to someone, or organize an area of your home.
