1 in 13 kids have a food allergy. The Teal Pumpkin Project helps make sure all children will have the opportunity to enjoy Halloween. To participate in this wonderful project you can offer non-food items to treat-or-treaters, such as glow sticks or small toys, as an alternative to candy. Place a teal pumpkin by your front door to indicate that you have non-food items.
So at our house we are still going to have candy, but we are also going to have small toys to give out. And I found an enjoyable/parent irritating alternative: whistles. I’m a little excited to frustrate a whole neighborhood of parents (sorry ahead of time). But if it is any consolation, my children will also have annoying whistles for a night until they magically disappear.
So lets spread this concept around because I want everyone to enjoy Halloween. If you are going to participate- give us some tips, comment, and post pictures. This is a wonderful idea and a fun way to include everyone in the spooky evening.
