It seems that the Danish have most things figured out- including comfortable and cozy environments. Or as they say ‘hygge’ which is creating a sense of content and well-being. Here are a few suggestions to make your home and life more hyggly.
Candles: Light is such an important part of feeling grounded and cozy. Candle light- with real candles- has been shown to assist in your cozy feeling and a general sense of contentment. So light some candles and hang out while it burns.
Cozy blankets: Add to your warm and happy candle lighting by curling up in a nice blanket. With it being summer you can also take some time to go stargazing in your fluffy blanket.
Go outside & bring outside in: Natural materials are the most hyggly- they elicit a feeling of solid balance. So if you can’t get outside by eating a meal, having friends around a campfire, or gardening- bring the outdoors in with natural fiber furniture and fabrics.
My insights: My journey into hygge started with a book titled: The little book of hygge By: Meik Wiking. It is full of ideas to hygge up your life along with some giggle worthy stories. Check it out for a glimpse into Danish life and tips to make life a little bit better. Changes that were made in my home: More blankets (like I needed an excuse), more candles, meal making as a full family, and eating more meals outside.
In the world: Either give someone a hyggly gift like a candle or blanket -or- invite someone over for a hyggly time. A hyggly time could include a nice meal, candle light, and an in depth stargazing discussion.
I would love to see who is going on this journey alongside me- so use the hashtag #30daysofMagic, tag me with @jessietherapy (facebook or instagram) , or message me so I can share your experience too.
See you in the blooms Friends!
