I don’t really think of myself as a complainer. A fixer and a doer- yes and yes, but not a complainer. Until I took this challenge. Apparently I have mentally worked my way around this by telling myself that I’m just ‘giving the facts’ or ‘assessing the situation’. When often times there is nothing to solve, fix or work around.
Because this was so insightful for me, I would like you to try it. Here are the rules: if it is rude, judgy, or whiny- don’t say it. If you are thinking it, get yourself to stop. I used the guidelines that unless I needed to do something personally about it in the next 24 hours, there was no need to overanalyze it at all. If you find yourself complaining, get back on track and refocus on things that move you in a positive direction and make you a better you.
Reassess: What situations do you tend to complain more about than others? Do you usually take action on them at some point? Do you feel better or worse after complaining/doing this exercise?
